Azadeh Shladovsky

As a multi-disciplinary artist, my work is rooted in the material expression of visual consciousness: the study of how, what and who we see. At it’s core, this conceptual framework is informed by the limitations of vision as a social construct and its impact on identity and perception.

Whether through objects, sculpture or multi-media installations, my process is primarily guided by the unseen potential in material relationships. These relationships are filtered and reinterpreted through systems of language, symbols and data, examining how they communicate, restrict or reveal meaning.

Ultimately, I am interested by how our collective and individual perspectives shape what we consider visible, invisible, or obscured, and how these frameworks influence personal and cultural understandings of self and other.
